Land O’Lakes 2010 Annual Meeting Scheduled for February 24
2/3/2010 12:00 AM
Land O'Lakes members are invited to the cooperative's 89th Annual Meeting. The event will offer all the different flavors of the cooperative system under one roof at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Minneapolis. Planned events include the Foundation Board meeting, a Policies and Resolutions Committee meeting, and the Growing Our Future: Co-op Leadership 101 conference. At the Business Meeting, delegates will be voting on the 2010 Policies and Resolutions and the election of seven directors to the Corporate Board.
This year’s theme, “Member Owned – Idea Driven,” highlights what gives Land O’Lakes its distinct personality and differentiating advantage. The “Member Owned” portion of the theme recognizes our history and rich heritage; while “Idea Driven” emphasizes that Land O’Lakes is modern and innovative, using sophisticated technology and new ideas to advance members’ interests.
This year’s guest speaker is Dr. David E. Bell, a noted economist from Harvard Business School. He is the George M. Moffett Professor of Business Administration and has taught courses on managerial economics, risk management, marketing and retailing at both MBA and executive levels for 30 years. Currently he is teaching the MBA Agribusiness course and chairs the annual Agribusiness Seminar that attracts more than 200 food industry executives from around the world to discuss trends in the industry.
Bell will address the most effective ways to feed the world in today’s climate of political debates and government agendas including: global free trade; food supply chains; organically, sustainably, ethically and locally grown food; and technology, including genetically modified organisms. Bell’s talk will review all these issues and tell you where it is all headed—where our food will come from, what will happen to the rain forest and even how to lose weight!
On Feb. 24, registration and check-in for the Annual Meeting and general session will begin at 7:00 a.m.; the Business Meeting will begin at 2:45 p.m.
